The Sydney Morning Herald says that 3D printing is increasingly being used by shoe manufacturers to make customized products for consumers. Nike and New Balance are partnering with technology companies to create 3D-printed athletic shoes, while smaller companies like Wiivv and SOLS are working with doctors to provide custom-made insoles for patients’ feet.

Over time, 3D printing could have major implications in how shoes are built and delivered, with the potential for 3D printer owners to download and print purchased products at home.
