Xerox recently announced plans to split the company into two separate, public companies, one focused on Document Technology and the other on Business Process Outsourcing (BPO). The split, expected to take place before the end of 2016, is meant to deliver value by focusing each company on distinct customer needs, creating simplified organizational structures and distinct financial profiles.
While most people may not link Xerox to the 3D printing space, 3DPrint.com points out that Xerox is actually one of the original developers of 3D printing technology. The company recently filed a patent on a rotating print bed for use in 3D printing applications, leading to speculation that Xerox is preparing to launch a 3D printer of their own.
This leads to the question of which company will end up with Xerox’s 3D printing technology and intellectual property. Or whether either division will choose to pursue the technology at all.
